What this site is
DebtHaus.com publishes plain-language articles about debt — credit cards, student loans, settlement, collections, and what happens to debt in a divorce or after a death. It is owned and operated by Cloudalien Technologies LLC.
We are not a lender, a broker, a debt settlement company, or a credit repair organisation. We do not arrange loans, we do not match you with lenders, we do not take applications, and we do not accept payment from anyone in exchange for a recommendation. If you have used this site before and remember it working differently, that is why: it does not do that any more.
This is not financial or legal advice
Everything here is general information, published for education. It is not advice about your situation, and it cannot be — we do not know your income, your balances, your rates, your state, or anything else that would matter.
Debt decisions are consequential and often irreversible. Settlement can damage your credit for years. Consolidating unsecured debt into a loan secured on your home can put your home at risk. Bankruptcy has effects that last the better part of a decade. Before acting on anything you read here, talk to a qualified professional — a non-profit credit counsellor accredited by the NFCC, an attorney for anything involving a lawsuit or bankruptcy, or a tax professional where tax is involved.
Free, impartial help exists and is worth using before anything that costs money. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau publishes guidance at consumerfinance.gov, and the Federal Trade Commission covers debt relief scams at consumer.ftc.gov.
Accuracy and currency
Rules change, rates change, and an article accurate when written may be out of date by the time you read it. Dates are shown on every article for that reason. We correct what we get wrong: write to [email protected].
If that changes
If this site ever earns money from a link or a referral, that will be disclosed clearly, on the page it applies to, before you click it. It does not today.
